Week 5

Hello!

This week, the students continued exploring our foundational math concepts, with many engaging with number groups via basic multiplication and division facts. We continued developing characters in writing, and, after exploring the characteristics of a hero using Terry Fox as a model, they wrote about someone who they feel is heroic. We also had our Terry Fox run on Wednesday. In Science, we explored the ideas of recycling and reusing "waste" materials, as well as getting out into the community for our walking field trip to collect data on what types of trash are more or less common (and help improve our community by cleaning up a little). We finished off the week by creating art using recycled materials!

Next week we will be focusing on...

Writing

  • Narrative Writing: plotting with a story arc and writing first drafts

Reading

  • Continuing conferences with students regarding picking good reading materials.
  • Reading with a partner
  • First round of formal reading assessments

Math

  • Students continue to work on the foundational understanding of place value/number value and multiplication/division facts
  • some students are moving on to Decimal Place Value

Science

  • Continue our Waste in Our World unit
  • Walking field trip in the community (Friday) to paint the Yellow Fish Road fishes for water system awareness

Notes for next week:

  • Walking Field Trip on Friday (please email me at matt.vandendungen@lethsd.ab.ca if you are interested in volunteering!)
  • a message will be coming out soon regarding signing up for Parent-Teacher interviews on Teams. Please sign up as soon as possible!

Thanks for reading!
