Goodbye February, Hello March!

Hello!

Please see below for a quick video overview of the last month!

Please see below for our academic focuses in March:

Writing:

This month, we will spend the first couple weeks digging deeper into sentence types (simple, compound, and complex). To support this, we will be looking at parts of speech, and how they connect to these sentence types. Finally, we will spend the last weeks working on a FILM STUDY! Please look for a letter coming home with details.

In our Word Study lessons, students will primarily focus on developing understandings of word structure, including abbreviations, possessives, and plurals.

Reading:

In the next couple months we will be working on our reading comprehension through interactive read-alouds and book clubs. We will develop strategies during interactive read-alouds and apply them in the book clubs.

I'll also be continuing to check in with small groups and individual students throughout this time, reviewing and expanding summarizing and inferencing skills.

Math:

In the next couple weeks we will be working through our equivalent fractions. If there is time, we will start working to multiply larger numbers before the break.

Science:

This month students will continue to prepare for, and then construct, their final Carnival Rides! These will be finished and ready for your perusal at Celebration of Learning.  Afterward, students will study types of energy and the ways in which energy can be stored.

Social:

Social is continuing to take a back seat this month as students focus deeply on their Science Inquiry.

Wellness:

In March we will be working on Badminton in the the gym. During our in-class lessons, we will be starting our next unit, focused on nutrition.

French:

Students will focus on asking and answering questions, as well as vocabulary related to family, and directions.

Art:

In March, students will be finishing up their collaborative line art (come see at Celebration of Learning). Then we will begin looking at creating some pottery pieces, which we may be able to fire after the Spring Break.

Important Notes for the next month:

  • Tuesday Mar 5 & Thursday Mar 7 - Skating Field Trips
  • Friday Mar 8 - Report Cards go live
  • Thursday Mar 14 - Green & Gold Day (am), Parent-Teacher Interview and Celebration of Learning (pm)
