Farewell March... I guess April's already half over?
Hello!
Welp! I don't know where the time went. One day I was thinking to myself, "I'll have to write that April blog soon, and the next... well, here we are. March was a busy month! We had report cards, Parent-Teacher Conferences, our grade 4/5 ski trip, and (checks notes) 3 total field trips? Crazy. We also did our Film Study (still ongoing for those in Mrs. Morden's group), almost a full Social Studies unit, a math Big Boss Battle, finished up one Book Club, and started a new one.
Please see below for our academic focuses in April:
Writing (smaller group - some students with Mrs. Morden):
We are spending the entire month working on our Camp NaNoWriMo stories. Throughout that time, we are specifically focusing on Character introductions, including motivation and character traits, Major/Minor Characters, Main/Sub plots, Fantasy elements, figurative language, and paragraphing.
Reading:
Students are finishing up their Fantasy fiction book clubs.
Math (smaller group - some students with Mrs. Morden):
Our focus has been, and will continue to be, basic multiplication facts. We're working to develop fluency and automaticity before diving into multiplying and dividing larger numbers in May.
Science:
Our break from Science to focus on Social Studies continues.
Social:
We'll learn about the earliest parts of Alberta's history, beginning with ancient history and the First Peoples before exploring the beginnings of European migration and arrival in the prairies.
Wellness:
In April, students are participating in Badminton, finishing up Financial Literacy, and will begin a duo of mini-units on Resilience and Perseverance.
French:
Students are continuing to learn about questioning.
Important Notes for the month:
- Spring Pictures on Tuesday April 15th
- Mr. Denness's last day with us is Wednesday April 16th
- No School for Spring Break from April 18-27th
Thanks for reading,
Mr. V
