Farewell... Spring? Hello June.

Hello!

Ummm! Once again, time has gotten away from me. I sat down to do up this blog and realized that I had never done May's! I sincerely apologize. In the past couple months, we've said goodbye to Mr. Denness, completed several units, written books, created dioramas, and learned long division, and so much more. There are fewer than 20 school days left in the 2024/25 school year, and that's pretty wild. There's plenty more learning, though, and a whole lot of fun to come.

Please see below for our academic focuses in June:

Writing (smaller group - some students with Mrs. Morden):

We are beginning our poetry unit this week. Students will explore a few different types of poetry, learning about how we can use comparison language in poetic ways. We'll also be attempting a Speakers' Club in which students will write short speeches and perform them for the class.

Reading:

Students will be recording short Readers' Theater performances in small groups.

Math (smaller group - some students with Mrs. Morden):

We have a couple remaining topics. Students are currently wrapping up a project using Area, then will move on to Time and Duration. If there is time at the end, we'll return to Data and Statistics, taking a deeper dive into the Statistical Problem-Solving process.

Science:

We have more or less wrapped up Science for the year. Near the end, we may look a little deeper into Living Systems, unpacking some of our learning about plants and animals and exploring some of those concepts further.

Social:

We are in the middle of our unit on the New Roots of Alberta, looking at the movement of European peoples into Alberta and how the diverse peoples have impacted the development of our province. Look out soon for an email about our Alberta Day in mid June: we'll be looking for volunteers to come and run a station for the day.

Wellness:

Our physical education focus in June will largely be on outdoor games, including flag football and gagaball. In the personal wellness section, we'll be wrapping up our study of resilience and drawing connections to perseverance.

Important Notes for the month:

  • June 6th (after school) - Celebration of Learning!
  • June 10th - Alberta Day
  • June 13th - Maker Market #2
  • June 17th (PM) - Grade 3-5 water fight
  • June 19th - Sports Day
  • June 24th - Grade 4 End-of-Year Field Trip (more information to come)
  • June 25th - Last Day for Students

Thanks for reading,

Mr. V
