For the week of May 9-13

Hello!

This past week, students worked on revising their Camp NaNoWriMo stories - it's been so incredible to see the stories that they've written and the passion they have developed around creating their stories. In Social, they worked together with a group to research a specific period in the development of Alberta as a province (around the CPR, Treaties, and NWMP), then developed their own "Notes to My Future Forgetful Self" for use on a summative assessment. There was also a fun problem solving challenge in math around calculating the total sum of money from 1001 coins. Finally, we had a blast celebrating "May the 4th" on Wednesday.

Some notes on our Learning this week:

Writing

  • Edit Camp NaNoWriMo stories by looking for complete sentences and using the COPS (capitalization, organization, punctuation, spelling) method

Reading

  • Collaborative Literacy Groups
  • Begin our final book clubs with a book tasting

Math

  • Buckle down for the final push. Many students are working towards the advanced level skills and understandings from our grade 4 math program. Others are continuing to work towards mastering the foundational and intermediate level outcomes.

Social Studies

  • Continue our Settlers of Alberta (part 2) unit. This section focuses on the impact British settlers ands structures had on the development of Alberta as a province.

Notes for next week:

  • Social Homework Project (My Heritage) - comes home Monday
  • VR app development session #1 with U of L - Thursday
  • Moosehide Campaign Presentation - Thursday
  • Crazy Hair Day - Friday

Thanks for reading!

Mr. V
